Attending the 2018 NSC Congress & Expo

IMPROV® Learning is excited to attend the premier annual conference and networking event for all types of safety professionals- the 2018 NSC Congress and Expo. It will be held in Houston, Texas at the George R. Brown Convention Center. Events associated with the expo will run October 20-26, and the Expo itself will be October 22-24. The Expo is expected to draw over 14,000 attendees and will include a wide variety of presentations and exhibits from virtually every safety-interest or -related company and agency, including and expected strong showing by the IMPROV® Learning team.

Travel and Lodging

The George R. Brown Convention Center is located in Downtown Houston near the Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park, and across the street from Discovery Green. The Center is near dozens of hotels and regular shuttle service is available from most lodging venues to the Convention Center. In addition to a wealth of other information, lodging can be arranged directly through the Conference website.

The 2018 Congress and Expo Overview and Schedule

This coming weekend (Oct. 20-21, 2018) is set aside for professional development seminars that have a separate registration from the main Expo.

The Expo itself kicks off on Monday, October 22, with dedicated shuttle service starting at 7:00AM and the Leadership Keynote address at 8:00AM. The first day of the conference is consumed with the Expo itself, which opens at 9:30AM, as well as several learning and technical sessions.

Tuesday, October 23 will follow a similar schedule, with additional highlights including a “Best in Show New Product” award at 8:00AM for the best new safety product introduced at the Expo as well as a presentation by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) on their top 10 identified safety issues for the year.

Wednesday, October 24 will be the last day of the Expo itself and includes an Occupational Keynote address as well as a technical tour of the Houston Space Center. Unsurprisingly, the tour of the Houston Space Center is already sold out as of this writing, but during the Expo it can’t hurt to ask if there are cancellations or no-shows for this popular event.

After the close of the main Expo, October 25-26 are dedicated to more professional development seminars, again with their own registration process.

The Expo Experience

Attendees can expect to be immersed in the world of safety training, education, and equipment for the duration of their stay at the Expo. Hundreds of companies will be present, including IMPROV® Learning located at Booth 4401 on the Expo floor. Exhibits will cover every imaginable safety product and topic, and even seasoned safety training professionals will see and learn something new.

More than perhaps any other advantage of attendance, the Expo is an unparalleled networking opportunity. Except perhaps in the largest organizations or those dedicated to safety training and education, many full-time safety professionals work in small corporate or organizational safety shops, or often even as the sole on-site safety specialist. The 2018 Expo is a chance to talk safety with other safety pros for three days straight, including the experts at IMPROV® Learning.

The Expo also provides a chance to see scenic downtown Houston at a time of year when walking the streets will not be an unpleasant experience due to hear. Whether you take in the local food, a Rockets Game, or make your way to the Space Center if you were unable to get a coveted seat in the Expo tour with your fellow safety training professionals, there’s plenty to do and see outside the Expo itself.
